CURVED-TOP INTERNAL PANEL INSTALLATION IN ABBOTSFORD
This curved-top internal panel installation in Abbotsford involved the supply and installation of a new Western Red Cedar door panel designed to incorporate the property’s existing leadlight. The project also included new hinges, a door lock and an Everbrass deadlock.
The combination of new custom timber joinery and an existing leadlight feature required the new panel to accommodate both the curved profile and the retained glazing.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The completed scope of works for this Abbotsford project included:
- Curved-top internal panel
- Western Red Cedar construction
- Existing leadlight
- Primed finish
- New hinges
- New door lock
- Everbrass deadlock
The project brought together new timber joinery, existing glazing and replacement door hardware within a single internal door installation.
A NEW CURVED-TOP INTERNAL PANEL
The new panel was manufactured with a curved top to suit the existing doorway and provide the required profile for the installation.
Rather than using a standard rectangular door, the curved-top design was incorporated into the new timber panel as part of the joinery. This allowed the door to accommodate the existing leadlight while maintaining the intended shape of the opening.
The panel was purpose-built for the project and supplied ready for installation, providing a tailored solution for the existing doorway.
WESTERN RED CEDAR CONSTRUCTION
Western Red Cedar was selected for the new internal panel.
The timber provides a natural appearance suited to custom joinery, while its workability makes it suitable for producing detailed components such as the curved top required for this door.
The completed panel was supplied to site primed, giving the timber a prepared surface before its final finishing requirements.
EXISTING LEADLIGHT GLAZING
A key part of the project was retaining the existing leadlight. The leadlight was incorporated into the new timber panel rather than being replaced. This required the new joinery to accommodate the existing glazing within its design.
Retaining the original glass allowed an established feature of the doorway to remain in place while the timber panel itself was renewed.
NEW DOOR HARDWARE
The project included the supply and installation of new hardware to complete the door. New hinges were fitted to the panel, together with a new door lock. An Everbrass deadlock was also supplied and installed as part of the works.
Completing the hardware as part of the same project provided a coordinated installation rather than treating the new panel and door hardware as separate works.
FROM CUSTOM JOINERY TO COMPLETED INSTALLATION
The installation brought together several components that needed to work within the same doorway: the curved timber panel, existing leadlight and new hardware.
The panel arrived on site primed and ready for installation, with the existing leadlight incorporated into the door. Once positioned, the new hinges, lock and Everbrass deadlock were installed to complete the assembly.
This project demonstrates the practical considerations involved when new joinery needs to work with an existing architectural element. Instead of replacing the leadlight, the new panel was designed around it as part of the overall door solution.
